The History of Parkhotel Golf
Before Parkhotel Golf was founded, there was a Café and Public House Meteor, built by the Kellermanns, but run by Florián Pöperl. The origin dates back to 1911 - 1913.
Later, the café was bought by a rich hotelier Kašpar Otto, who already owned several important hotels in Mariánské Lázně. His son-in-law, Heinrich Grimme, had Meteor rebuilt twice. First in the 1920s, second and great reconstruction had been finished in 1931. The result was a hotel with England-inspired luxurious interior. It was a high-standard hotel, so rich golf players liked it. The new hotel had 15 single rooms, 15 double rooms and 2 suites. Half of the rooms had a private bathroom, which was a high standard at that time.
During World War II the hotel was not opened for public, it was used by German and American soldiers. The hotel was reopened for public in 1947.
Famous guests until World War II: English writer Rudyard Kipling, German composer Richard Strauss, famous Austrian actress Elisabeth Bergner (1897-1986), German film actor Dieter Borsche (1909-1982), German film actress Olga Čechová (1897-1980), English-German actress Lilian Harvey (1907-1968), multi-millionaire Morgan who has funded building of the Panama Canal, Spanish former king Alfons XIII, Bulgarian former king Ferdinand.
